John is currently serving his second term on Geneva City Council, where he holds the position of Council President.
He is entering his 29th year as a science teacher at Geneva High School, where he serves as Science Department Chair.
John is a member of several school and community committees, and works tirelessly on conservation, infrastructure, and community engagement issues to better serve his students and constituents.
Conservation and the outdoors are both priorities for John. He belongs to the Geneva Sustainability Commission, and leads the “Courtyard Crew” at Geneva High School, a student group dedicated to learning about conservation issues. He has spent his life fishing the rivers, ponds and lakes of Northeast Ohio, and truly understands the importance of conserving our natural resources and protecting the biodiversity of Ohio. He is the author of the “Cleveland Fishing Guide.”
A lifetime of living in Northeast Ohio has shown John the consequences of decades of single-party dominance in Columbus. He believes residents of Ohio deserve better.
As a candidate for the 65th District, John is focused on using his life experiences as an educator, councilperson, husband and father to represent the citizens of Ohio. He understands the importance of being accessible, transparent, and willing to work across differences to achieve meaningful results.
Whether in the classroom or on the campaign trail, John Barbo believes that leadership begins with service. He is running to bring the perspective of an educator, the values of a community member, and a commitment to building a stronger future for Ohio’s 65th District.
